About Kasey Schultz-Saindon

Kasey Schultz-Saindon is a psychologist who lives in the suburbs of Chicago, IL with her husband, Eric, and their puppy. Kasey and Eric began their journey towards parenthood in July 2016. They have lost two baby boys at 20 weeks gestation, the first in November 2016 and the second in October 2017. With the help of genetic testing and incredible medical providers, the genetic mutation that affected their baby boys was identified. Kasey and Eric were able to utilize IVF to transfer an unaffected embryo, and they are hoping for their rainbow to finally arrive in March 2019. Kasey has been incredibly grateful for the support of the pregnancy loss and pregnancy after loss community throughout this journey and is excited to share her experiences during her third pregnancy.

Kasey’s Bump Day Blog, Week 24: Viability, a Cold, and Movement

For many pregnancies, 24 weeks is a big milestone. It is known as the first marker of viability, a point after which a baby has a chance at survival outside of the womb. For loss parents, if this milestone has any meaning at all, it is watered down. 37 weeks feels no safer than 24 [...]

Kasey’s Bump Day Blog, Week 23: Watching from the Sidelines – A Loss Dad’s Experience

This week's bump day blog is a guest post from Kasey's husband, Eric Saindon. I am a positive and energetic person. I’m the teacher that swings a toy light saber in the hallways or sings out of tune as students are walking into my class just to be silly. In moments when I act less [...]

Kasey’s Bump Day Blog, Week 22: Feeling Good?

Now that we are past the scary anatomy scan milestone, our friends and family have been asking how we are feeling. I want to respond with “I feel good.” It is true. I do feel good. I am still so glad to be past that hurdle. I still feel less anxious than I have this [...]

Kasey’s Bump Day Blog, Week 21: A Big Milestone

I have been 21 weeks pregnant three times now. Each of these times I have gone to the hospital for a significant event related to the pregnancy.  At 21 weeks, 0 days in my first pregnancy I had a dilation and evacuation procedure 48 hours after we found out that we had lost Lentil. I [...]

Kasey’s Bump Day Blog, Week 20: One Year

Anniversary. Birthday. Stillbirth day. The day I delivered him. I am not sure what to call it. I am writing this post on Danny’s delivery date at 19 weeks, 4 days pregnant. Monday when this post is published I will be 20 weeks, 3 days pregnant and just a few days away from my anatomy [...]

Kasey’s Bump Day Blog, Week 19: Vulnerable Connection

This past week we had another good appointment and ultrasound. I am continually amazed by the incredible support of the staff at my clinic. My doctors, nurses, and ultrasound techs are all wonderful. They are so aware of the emotional toll that these two losses have had on Eric and me, and they are willing [...]

Kasey’s Bump Day Blog, Week 18: Grateful

This past week I was at a psychologists’ conference in Minneapolis (hence my photo this week from the sculpture garden in Minneapolis).  I am walking away from this conference feeling grateful for this warm, supportive environment focused on connecting over shared experiences and getting to know people for who they are. This is my third [...]

Kasey’s Bump Day Blog, Week 17: Waiting

Pregnancy after loss is all about waiting. Pregnancy in general is a time of preparing and waiting for a baby to arrive. In pregnancy after loss, though, this waiting is not about waiting until the time that your baby is finally ready to join you, it is waiting to find out whether this baby will [...]

Kasey’s Bump Day Blog, Week 16: Different Pregnancy, Same Fear

I keep feeling that others want my husband and I to have the “different pregnancy, different baby, different outcome” philosophy with this pregnancy. While I understand that mantra and try hold onto it, I have been here before. I truly believed that during my second pregnancy. I believed we would bring home a healthy baby [...]

Kasey’s Bump Day Blog, Week 15: Two Years and Counting

My life is measured in school years. I was in school every year of my life from when I began preschool until I was 27 years-old. My husband is a high school teacher, and I work at a university. My life ebbs and flows based on the academic calendar. Two years ago, at the start [...]
